Building a Digital Powerhouse: Switzer Super Report

Recognising the potential of a new financial media venture conceived by Peter Switzer and Paul Rickard (former CEO of CommSec), Marty Switzer turned to Alisdair Blackman to lead the development of a tailored digital strategy.

In 2011, Marty Switzer, COO of Switzer Financial Services, engaged Alisdair Blackman to craft a digital strategy for a bold new venture led by Peter Switzer and Paul Rickard, former CEO of CommSec. The vision: to create Australia’s leading independent advice and information service for self-managed superannuation fund (SMSF) trustees.

By late 2011, the Switzer Super Report was designed and launched by Pivot Digital, Alisdair’s agency at the time. The platform quickly gained traction, attracting nearly 3,000 paying subscribers and establishing itself as a trusted voice in the SMSF space.

Key outcomes included:

  • Successful launch of a niche financial media platform
  • Rapid subscriber growth, now exceeding 10,000 paying members
  • Strong brand recognition among SMSF trustees
  • Ongoing double-digit growth in a specialised and expanding market

Digital Rehab continues to provide:

  • Product management and strategic oversight
  • Marketing guidance and advisory services
  • Technical and product support
  • Coordination with SEO and media agencies

With comparable platforms like Eureka Report and Business Spectator selling for over $30 million to News Ltd in 2012, the Switzer Super Report is widely regarded as a high-value asset—poised for significant media interest in the years ahead.

For now, our focus remains clear: drive sustained growth, deepen engagement, and elevate the brand’s prominence within Australia’s niche but influential SMSF trustee community.
